MEET THE COACH
Hello, and thank you for visiting my site! I would like to take this space to first introduce myself and then explain my philosophy and approach to training.
My background includes an engineering degree, a law degree, construction experience, criminal law experience, and three years of international development experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa. I embrace an idealist perspective on life and strive to maintain a highly positive psychology, with many passions and hobbies that compel creative expression and personal development. I also care deeply about the issues of social justice and environmental protection. In sum, I love helping people and I find true fulfillment in knowing that I’ve made a positive difference in someone else’s life.
One of my greatest passions has always been health and fitness, and I know of no better way to enjoy something you care about than to share it with others. That’s why I became a personal trainer. I’ve spent nearly 20 years training myself—having been an athlete in high school, a bodybuilder in college, and a fitness model thereafter. And as a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE), I now have over three years of professional experience training all sorts of clients from different backgrounds and fitness levels.
My goal as a personal trainer is to coach you towards the healthy and sustainable pursuit of holistic well-being. I am a firm believer in the power of positive psychology and I weave that into every aspect of my approach to training. I consider it my primary responsibility to inspire and motivate you to achieve your goals and attain happiness, both in fitness and in life. To do this, I focus foremost on relationships, on building rapport with you. As one of my teachers always said, “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” Through active listening and empathy, I will strive to get to know you on a personal level and gain understanding about you, your life ambitions, and your individual needs. From there, I will assist you in setting specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals; I will create individualized exercise and nutrition programs for you based on the most effective methods according to recent research in exercise science and nutrition; and then I will monitor, assess, and coach you toward success. I want you to be as passionate and excited about this as I am! I hope you’ll join me.
